A former apprentice solicitor from Derry is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty at the city's Crown Court today to committing a series of assaults on his ex-girlfriend.
Kevin McDaid (32), whose address was given as Hillview in Buncrana, had originally denied the offences, but in court today his barrister Michael McAleer applied to Judge Philip Babington to have him re-arraigned on the charges.
McDaid pleaded guilty to a total of 15 charges. Two further charges were left on the books not to be proceeded with without leave of the Crown Court or High Court.
The defendant pleaded guilty to seven charges of common assault on his former girlfriend and to three charges of causing criminal damage to her property, namely her I-phone and her jacket.
He further pleaded guilty to one charge of threatening to kill the complainant and guilty to one charge of falsely imprisoning her.
He additionally admitted two charges of assaulting her, occasioning her actual bodily harm as well as guilty to committing a similar offence against a man.
All 15 offences admitted by the defendant were committed in May, June, July, August, October and November of 2017.
A barrister for the Public Prosecution Service told Judge Babington the defendant had already pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court to one charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and that sentencing in that case would take place after the defendant was sentenced at the Crown Court.
The Crown Court case was adjourned until 4 Aprilwhen a plea and sentence hearing will take place and the defendant was released on continuing bail until that date.
Judge Babington said he wanted an agreed statement of facts from the defence and prosecution and said he wanted that agreed statement of facts to be given to the Probation Service to assist them in preparing a pre-sentence report.
