THE proposed new Post Office in Rosemount will open in July or August if the public consultation returns a favourable result, it has emerged.

The Post Office is currently inviting people to give their views on the suggested new branch at Gill's Spar Newsagent, 5-7 Park Avenue.

The previous branch at the corner of Academy Road and Park Avenue (pictured) closed in late November after the resignation of the Post Master and withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer term.

“The re-opening of the branch will create a more secure Post Office service to the local Park Avenue community for the future.”

The Post Office are inviting views on the proposal as part of their online consultation process.

The spokesperson said: "We're carrying out a local public consultation and we’d welcome your views on the proposal.

“We welcome feedback and comments that can help inform our plans.”

In particular the Post office want to know if people feel the proposed premises will be easy to get to and easy to access.

The proposed branch will be one of the ‘new local style branches’ and will be open from 7am to 10pm on week days and 8am to 10pm at weekends.

The Post Office said ‘the majority of Post Office products and services will still be available’, including postal orders, pre-order travel money and home shopping returns.

The public consultation will end on June 7 and a poster will be put up in the proposed branch to let people know if it will go ahead.
