A number of drop in clinics are taking place across the Western Trust area, including Derry to help people stop smoking.
The drop in clinics provide a free and flexible service available to those who wish to stop smoking. Specialist Nurses at the clinics provide help, support and advice along with Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
Catherine Farren, Smoking Cessation Specialist Nurse at the Western Trust said: “I am extremely proud and delighted with every client’s commitment, motivation, and achievement throughout this programme and I wish each and every one good health and future success in being a non-smoker. Every client who has succeeded through this programme is proud to be a quitter and this makes my job worthwhile.
“Remember, you are four times more likely to succeed in stopping smoking if you attend our smokefree service. It only takes one word to get the stop smoking advice you need… YES!!!”
One of the successful quitters at the clinics had this to say. “I didn’t realise how easy it was. I think having the support from the nurse at the clinic really motivated me on to succeed.”
Another quitter commented: “I had spent so much money on e-cigarettes to try and help me quit and it didn’t work. I didn’t think I would ever quit. I saw the poster in my local health centre advertising the clinic and thought I’d give it a go. It’s the best decision I have ever made. The service is free, flexible with my shift work and the prescriptions are free as well. I would highly recommend the clinic to anyone even considering stopping smoking.
“I have saved £840 over the past 12 weeks by stopping smoking with the help of this clinic. It has been hard at times, but seeing an improvement in my health especially in my chest and the money I am saving really spurred me on and keeps me motivated to staying quit. Thank you to the specialist nurses who supported me through this friendly and helpful service. You made the whole process much easier.”
