Councillor Fergal Leonard and other Sinn Féin activists have erected Slow/ Go Mall signs in the Park area following concerns from residents.
Sinn Féin councillor Fergal Leonard has met with the Department for Infrastructure to press for action to address road safety concerns in the vicinity of St Mary’s Primary School, Altinure and in Park village itself.
Speaking last night, Councillor Leonard said: “I have received serious concerns from the local community about the safety of children using St Mary Primary School. These concerns include the speed of traffic at the access point of the school onto the Monadore Road where there have been a number of near misses at this dangerous bend. The danger has been further compounded due to reduced sightlines at this bend as a result of overgrown trees.”
Sinn Féin activists have erected Slow/Go Mall signage to encourage motorists to slow down given the inherent dangers that exist
There are also concerns about the dangers being presented because of the speed of traffic on the road through Park village itself.
“I have now met with DfI Roads Service on both issues and have requested consideration be given to the provision of appropriate traffic calming measures to reduce the dangers being currently posed,” continued Councillor Leonard.
“I welcome word back from DfI is to take immediate action to cut back the overgrown trees at the school and I am awaiting a full response as to what other measures it will be taking to address local concerns.”
