Mayor hosts Derry reception for Newbuildngs Cricket Club's under-13 'double' winners

Newbuildings under-13 cricket team, winners of the North West Cup and League last season pictured at a reception held by Mayor Graham Warke in the Guildhall.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Mayor Warke, recently hosted a civic reception for Newbuildings Cricket Club's under-13 team in recognition of of their league and cup double.

Speaking after the reception, Mayor Warke said: “I was delighted to have the young men from Newbuildings under-13 cricket team and their coaches in the Guildhall to celebrate their amazing achievement of winning the double – the League and Cup – last season.

“Sport is such a great outlet for our children to socialise, learn new skills and have fun, and it’s brilliant to see this team work together to achieve their goal“.”

He added: “Team captain Jack McIvor and manager Gary Simpson spoke so well at the reception about all the hard work that went into bringing home two trophies and I wish them all the very best for this season – hopefully there will be more silverware in the years ahead.”
