Teenager Sean Patton scored a sensational hat-trick for Reading U-21s, having come off the substitutes' bench against Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League 2, Division 1 on Monday night.

The Drumkeen native came on in the 62nd minute with his team level seven minutes beforehand when Ashqar Ahmed cancelled out Jake Thomas Batty's 32nd-minute opener for Blackburn. Patton managed to net in the 71st, 86th and 88th minutes to seal a 4-1 win for his team - their first in the league season at the 10th attempt.

The now 19-year-old joined EFL League One club Reading from Derry City, having also played on loan at Finn Harps, on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee, in September.

Patton, who attended St Eunan’s College in Letterkenny, came through the Finn Harps academy before moving to Derry City and then lined out for Harps on loan.

He scored his first goal for Reading's first team in October, an 88th-minute winner in a 1–0 victory over Milton Keynes Dons in the EFL Trophy. His league debut for the club came in November, coming off the bench as a late substitute for Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan in a 3–0 win away to Blackpool at Bloomfield Road in League One.
