Derry City centre forward Sean Patton has joined English League One club Reading on a permanent deal.

The 19-year old was on the bench for Friday night’s 2-2 draw against St Patrick's before travelling to Berkshire for a medical on Monday morning.

The Republic of Ireland under-19 International has made 10 appearances for the Brandywell side this season and joins ‘The Royals’ for an undisclosed fee following a successful trial period with the Royals during their trip to Fota Island in July.

Patton through the Finn Harps Academy before moving to Derry City, where he made his debut at 16.

Manager Tiernan Lynch wished the striker every success on his move and said: “Sean is the type of player who gives you everything whether that is in training or a game and he obviously has his whole career ahead of him.
