Ryan McBride sadly died in 2017.

Local legal firm McCay Legal will be a key sponsor of the Ryan McBride Foundation 'Go red for Ryan' appeal.

McCay Legal managing director Gareth McCay said: “I am delighted to confirm that McCay Legal will be a key sponsor of the Ryan McBride Foundation’s “Go Red for Ryan” appeal.

“The Ryan McBride Foundation is very close to my heart as Ryan was my brother in law and was someone I greatly admired.

“Ryan was a truly inspirational person and someone who overcame adversity to become a cult hero in Irish football. Ryan was captain of Derry City and sadly passed away in his sleep in 2017 at the age of 27.

“He has left a huge void in many people’s lives and some of those people came together to set up the Ryan McBride Foundation to maintain a legacy for Ryan and to use his life to give hope and guidance to others.

“The Foundation is a registered charity set up in Ryan’s name to support, assist and inspire young people to achieve their full potential.

“It works with over 1000 primary school children across the North West every week providing coaching sessions and promoting healthy eating, positive mindsets and anti-bullying. It also provides free key stage 2 tuition to children from less-privileged backgrounds and affordable community football programs.

“The annual Go Red for Ryan appeal is held every year around May 5 as Ryan is synonymous with his number 5 shirt that he wore with such pride.

“Go Red for Ryan is a vitally important fundraiser for the Foundation in the face of funding cuts and in truth it has kept the Foundation going over the past couple of years. All workplaces, sports clubs and schools can take part by getting their staff/customers to: Wear Something Red (can be small as socks or a tie); Raise or Donate £5 (can be cash or via our just giving link Crowdfunding For Good From JustGiving).

“So this year 5/5 falls on a Bank Holiday Monday – if your business is closed not to worry, you can move it to Friday, May 2 and get everyone in an upbeat mood to kickstart the bank holiday weekend!

“Some hospitality businesses are also placing donation buckets in their premises for customers to get involved. If you would like a collection bucket please let us know and we will have one dropped to you.

“All participating businesses will get coverage on the Foundation’s socials (circa 15,000 reach) and one of Ryan’s family will visit to do a handover and some photos. So why not get your team involved and Go Red For Ryan.

“Many thanks for your time, if you can get involved please drop an email to info@mcbride5foundation.com and/or to me. I look forward to hearing from you.”
