Derry teenager Trent Kone-Doherty has been named in the Liverpool squad to face PSV in the Champions League tonight.

The 18-year-old has travelled as part of a 21-man squad to Eindhoven in the league phase of the European competition.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has decided to leave 12 first-team players in Merseyside ahead of their tough Premier League fixture at the weekend away to Bournemouth.

The Reds have already qualified for the last 16 in the Champions League and currently sit at the top of the league title, giving them the top seed for their next round.

This will explain Slot taking a youthful side to the Netherlands to face the reigning Eredivisie champions.

Kone-Doherty has signed for Liverpool from Derry City in July 2022 and has been a key fixture of the underage setup at the English club.

The Republic of Ireland U19 international is not the only individual from the island of Ireland to go on this Dutch journey, as Irish international Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to start in goal, while Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley is expected to start at fullback, with underage Northern Irish international Kieran Morrison named in the squad.

The game will be far from straightforward for Liverpool, as while they know their qualification is guaranteed and this may be considered a free hit, PSV have everything to play for, as a win could see them qualify for the play-off round of the competition.

Liverpool versus PSV at the Philips Stadium will kick off at 8 pm GMT and be shown live on TNT Sports in the UK and on Virgin Media 2 in the Republic of Ireland.
