Foyle Harps 6
Maiden City 1
Harps laid down a marker that they will be the team to beat in this competition following this comprehensive defeat of a good Maiden City side.
They took the lead after fifteen minutes when Ronan Doherty punished a poor clearance to volley past Ray Kelly in the City goal. Maiden City responded well, and it took a superb save by Harps keeper, Brown, to keep out an Aaron McGurk strike. Harps then doubled their advantage when Shane Boyle headed powerfully past Kelly from a Jamie Dunne corner. Any hopes of a City fightback were put to bed early in the second half when Calvin McCallion scored two quick fire goals to give Harps a comfortable cushion.
To their credit, Maiden City kept plugging away and pulled one back when Aaron McGurk found the net with a fine finish. However, Harps simply moved up a gear and scored a fifth goal when substitute, Sean McCarron, headed home from another well delivered corner. Jamie Dunne completed the scoring with a well taken sixth. Harps will now play Rosemount in tomorrow night's semi-final for the right to meet Trojans in Sunday's final.
The game tomorrow night kicks off at 6.45 at Oakland Park with the final on Sunday scheduled for a 5.00pm ko. Main Sponsors, Impact-ni, complete accident management, will be in attendance at the final as will representatives from our secondary sponsors, McKeevers Newsagents, Raymond Gurney Automotive, Xfit Gym and Bay Road Soccer. The Burke family will also be in attendance to assist with the presentations after the game.
