Terry Kelly Cup Final
Foyle Harps 0
Newell 1
Newell won their first senior trophy as a D&D team by shocking favourites Foyle Harps at Wilton Park.
A first half penalty from Garvan Feeney gave Newell the lead and that proved to be enough with Paul Roddy's team producing an outstanding defensive performance throughout.
But the game would not have been won without a sensational performance from Newell goalkeeper Taylor Clarke, who produced miracles in goal to keep Harps out, particularly in the second half.
Clarke denied Ryan Doherty twice, once in each half, the second save of which was incredible as he somehow scooped the ball off the line from a close range header.
The Newell goalkeeper, who was rightfully awarded 'Man of the Match' afterwards, pulled off an ever better save to deny Dean Brown from close range when the striker met Sean McCarron's cross with a bullet header, but an instinctive stop kept the ball out.
Harps threw everyone forward in the closing stages and it looked as if defender Shane Boyle would surely equalise on 91 minutes, but Clarke was there again to keep the ball out, to leave Boyle shaking his head in disbelief.
The final whistle eventually followed after intense pressure on the Newell goal, with Roddy's team the first in the D&D to defeat Harps since May 30, 2019.
