Institute twice gave up the lead as they dropped two valuable points against Dergview at the Brandywell.

It is now 20 points lost from winning positions this season for 'Stute, who should have won this game comfortably, but were guilty of poor finishing throughout. At the other end they were equally as poor, with both Dergview goals completely avoidable.

‘Stute really should have taken the lead on 35 minutes. Dylan Doherty ‘s punch from a Dergview free-kick set McFeely away on a counter-attack, with the winger playing a ball in behind the visitors’ defence to set McCallion in on goal. The striker went clean through on goal, but the expected goal never materialized as Patrick McGarvey came out to block the shot well.

‘Stute were right at it at the start of the second half and again should have taken the lead. Jamie McCormick won the ball in his own half and led ‘Stute forward, finding McLaughlin, who dinked a ball behind the Dergview defence to set up McCallion, whose first-time volley lacked power and was comfortably stopped by McGarvey.

The chances came coming to McCallion, but it was proving to be one of those days, as he passed up another one-on-on chance before McFeely took it past the stranded Dergview goalkeeper, and set up McLaughlin, but his effort was blocked by McCallion.

The ‘Stute pressure was incessant and the opening goal came on 52 minutes when McLaughlin picked out McCormick in the area, and his touch was perfect, setting himself up for a precis finish into the corner to make it 1-0.

It looked as if ‘Stute would kick on from there, but they shot themselves in the foot spectacularly with Jamie Browne’s shot somehow finding the net past a despairing Doherty.

Brian Donaghey made two substitutions on 77 minutes, sending on both Andrew Whiteside and Sean McCarron, and it proved to be a masterstroke by the ‘Stute boss as McCarron put ‘Stute back into the lead within a minute. It was a nightmare moment for Dergview captain Matthew Buchanan however as he attempted to head the ball back to his goalkeeper, completely unaware that McCarron was behind him, and the striker made no mistake, placing the ball past McGarvey to score his first goal since returning to the club.

But again, ‘Stute couldn’t hold onto their lead. A Dergview corner saw Doherty come and miss the ball, leading to a goalmouth scramble which ended in Browne shooting towards goal and Kennedy getting the final touch as the ball found the corner of the net much to the delight of Dergview.
