Derry police clamp down on ‘parking nuisances’

Police in Derry have warned motorists they will not hesitate in issuing tickets to those involved in ‘indiscriminate’ parking in the city.
A spokesperson said: “We have been getting reports of an increase in parking nuisances in the city centre, particularly in respect of cars being parked in an indiscriminate way that causes an obstruction.
“While enforcing the parking restrictions is primarily a matter for the parking attendants, police have powers in relation to vehicles causing an obstruction.
“The city centre, John Street and the approaches to multi-storey car parks are areas where problems arise.
“We appreciate this is a busy time, but thoughtless parking can pose a risk as well as an inconvenience for other road users and pedestrians.”
The spokesperson concluded: “Christmas can be expensive enough without receiving a parking ticket, so always park in a considerate manner.”
