The ‘Be the Change’ conference is taking place at Derry’s Guildhall tomorrow at 9.00am

A conference in Derry bringing attention to the need to challenge harmful attitudes, promote respect and help end violence against women and girls, will take place tomorrow.

The ‘Be the Change’ conference brings together over 140 young people from local secondary schools, community staff and those involved at The Dove House Advocacy Project.

Tomorrow’s conference, which is being held in the Guildhall from 9am, will also provide an important opportunity for young people to explore the impact of harmful attitudes, behaviours and gender-based violence, while encouraging open conversations around respect, equality, healthy relationships and personal responsibility.

Schools attending play a vital role in ensuring that young people have the opportunity to engage, share their perspectives and recognise the positive influence they can have within their schools and wider communities.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s event, Jayne Quigg, Manager, Dove House Community Trust said: “The involvement of community staff and professionals highlights the importance of partnership and working together to challenge harmful attitudes, raising awareness and creating safer environments for women and girls.

”The Advocacy Project organised the banner launched today at Free Derry Corner and captures the organisations involved in making this event possible. We look forward to seeing you all there tomorrow.”

Today’s launch also marked an important step in bringing education, community support and youth advocacy together under one shared message: ‘We all have a responsibility to be part of the change. Through continued collaboration and positive action, the Be the Change initiative aims to inspire a culture of respect, accountability and equality, helping to build safer communities for everyone.’
