A Derry man organised the donation of helmets and hurls for GAA Palestine.
Damian McKane organised the collection of the equipment to allow the members of Palestine to embrace the historic sport of Ireland.
He worked in conjunction with the Derry branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Paddy Duffy, part of Na Magha CLG.
Derry IPSC said: “For the children of Gaza, hurling has become the ‘sport of freedom’— a symbol of resilience, strength, and resistance in the face of oppression. Through sport, they find a sense of hope, identity, and connection to the wider world.”
Both Mr McKane and the Derry IPSC thanked those who donated the equipment, particularly to the ‘Gaels of Derry and Antrim’.
Derry IPSC said: “A huge thank you to Damien for organising this incredible effort and to the Gaels of Derry & Antrim for their generous donations of helmets and hurls for @GAA_Palestine. Your solidarity brings hope and strength to young athletes in Palestine.
“Special thanks to our activists in Derry IPSC and Paddy Duffy (Na Magha CLG) for their support, and to Claire & Cathal for their dedication to coaching.
“This is the power of sport and solidarity in action!”
