Comedienne Diona Doherty is set to appear in Blue Lights

Derry actress and comedian Diona Doherty has been cast for the third series of Blue Lights.

The Blame Game panel member took to Facebook to share the news.

It is not the comedian’s first foray into acting, having had roles previously in Derry Girls and Soft Border Patrol.

Her previous roles have largely been based in comedy, with this being a move into drama.

Blue Lights is a Belfast-based drama that initially followed new recruits Grace (Siân Brooke), Annie (Katherine Devlin), and Tommy (Nathan Braniff) as they learned the ropes in a high-pressure environment.

Doherty joins the Broadcast Awards Best Drama Series or Serial winner for 2025.

It remains to be seen what her role will be within the show and if she will be a one-off character or a recurring role.

She said: “BUZZING to be joining series 3 of #BlueLights.”

While Two Cities TV, the production company, took to Instagram to announce that filming of the BBC series has begun.

They said: “Blue Lights Series 3 Announcement.

“Cathy Tyson (Boiling Point, Dune: Prophecy) and Michael Smiley (Bad Sisters, Censor) have joined the cast of the @bluelightstvofficial as filming begins on the third series of the multi-award-winning Belfast-based drama.
