Columba Conversations: Rev Harold Good OBE - The Path to Peace
The Churches Trust is honoured to announce an evening of reflection and inspiration as part of the Columba Conversations series within the Columba Journey Project, supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
It is set to take place on Tuesday, 25th February 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at The Playhouse, Derry/Londonderry, with a powerful talk by Rev Harold Good OBE, a key figure in the Northern Ireland peace process.
Born in Derry, Rev Good is renowned for his role as one of the independent witnesses to the decommissioning of IRA weapons, marking a critical milestone in the journey toward reconciliation.
This free event will delve into:
  • The role of faith in conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
  • The challenges and opportunities religious traditions face in political and societal transformation.
  • Lessons from the Northern Ireland peace process and their relevance in today's world.
Drawing from his newly published memoir, In Good Time, Rev Good will share unique insights into his life and experiences as a peacemaker. The evening will conclude with an audience Q&A, offering a chance for participants to engage directly with this influential figure.
RSVP: Please email fionaelliott@thechurchestrust.org.uk with your name and any dietary requirements. Refreshments will be provided before the event.
This event is part of the broader Columba Journey Project, which celebrates the life and legacy of St. Columba through a series of talks, workshops, study visits, and creative activities, fostering dialogue and unity across communities in Northern Ireland and beyond.
Project Co-ordinator Cat Brogan said: "The Columba Conversations series is about exploring the values of peace and reconciliation through dialogue with experts and key figures who have made a profound impact. We are thrilled to welcome Rev Harold Good, whose life and work exemplify the spirit of this project. This event is particularly significant given his deep ties to Derry and his instrumental role in the peace process."
This initiative is generously funded by PEACEPLUS, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Government of the United Kingdom, the Government of Ireland, and the Northern Ireland Executive.
