Derry Court: Police called after Coleraine man abusive to staff at Waterside hostel

When Police arrived at the scene, a bottle was thrown at their vehicle

Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how when police were called to a report of a man being abusive to staff at a hostel in the Waterside area of the city a bottle was thrown at their vehicle.

Darren McClements (42) with an address at Westbourne Crescent in Coleraine admitted charges of being disorderly and resisting police on May 31.

The court heard that police were called to the hostel where McClements was being abusive to staff.

When police arrived a bottle was thrown at their vehicle.

The defendant was abusive to police and despite being warned about his behaviour he continued.

When police went to apply handcuffs the defendant 'flailed' his arms about to prevent this.

Defence solicitor Emma McBride said this was her client's first appearance in several years.

She said he was 'having a bad day' and was apologetic for his behaviour.

McClements was fined a total of £400.
