A 21 year-old man has appeared before a Derry court charged with setting a neighbour’s curtains on fire.

Liam O’Donnell of Brewsters Close appeared before Derry Magistrates Court charged with arson endangering life. The alleged incident is said to have taken place on Saturday.

A police officer in court said that he could connect O’Donnell to the charge.

O’Donnell was released on his own bail of £500 to reside at Old City Court.

He is prohibited from drinking alcohol and must observe a curfew from midnight to 7am.

O’Donnell will be tagged and electronically monitored and has been banned from entering Brewsters Close. He is also not to have any contact with the injured party and must engage in a drug and alcohol programme.

O’Donnell will appear back before the court again on July 24.
