THE current Rose of Tralee will visit Derry next week to encourage young women to take part in the famous competition.
Haley O’Sullivan, who is from Texas in the US, won the event last August.
Since then, she has travelled all over the world promoting the Rose of Tralee competition and her travels will bring her to Derry next Monday.
During her visit, she will call into to see patients at Altnagelvin Hospital as well as taking part in a series of meetings.
Her visit to Derry is part of a week-long tour of Northern Ireland.
Haley O’Sullivan said she had greatly enjoyed her time as the Rose of Tralee.
“Being part of the search for the next Rose of Tralee is exciting and to those considering entering, I would simply say you can't go wrong by entering. Regardless of the outcome it is bound to be a fabulous time,” she said.
“There is so much more that happens beyond the TV show in August.
“It's an opportunity for, not only the women participating in the Festival, but all women to celebrate where they come from and take pride in being strong and intelligent while having a great time.
“I cannot wait to meet all of the people who will participate this year. I was blown away by the amazing people I met during last year's Festival and I am thrilled to be part of the search for the 2014 Rose of Tralee.”
The 2014 Rose of Tralee will drive away for the year in a Kia Pro_car packed full of jewellery and homeware products from, the Festival’s Lead Sponsor, Newbridge Silverware and a travel prize valued at €25,000 sponsored by Dublin Airport Authority.
The 2014 Derry Rose selection will take place on Sunday, Macrh 16, in the Beech Hill Country House Hotel after which the 2014 Derry Rose will go on to represent the county in the Rose of Tralee Regional Festival in Portlaoise in June.
