Following two ‘Neck and Nominate’ related deaths across the country at the weekend, Ballinascreen GAA have released a statement urging young people to stay away from the dangerous craze.

Club Chairman, Francis McCloskey and the Ballinascreen GAA committee released a club statement urging “all our members and young people, not to get involved in this very dangerous activity, and to set an example to the young players of our Parish.”

It was the decision of the club’s Drugs Awareness Officer, Declan McBride, to officially warn club members and young people after hearing reports of ‘Neknominations’ taking place in the area.

The deaths of two men, this weekend, have already been linked to the online drinking game, in which participants are challenged to down a drink and then nominate a friend to do the same.

Jonny Byrne, aged 19 from County Carlow, drowned after jumping into a river midway through a ‘game’ in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The accident happened hours after 22 year-old DJ, Ross Cummins was found unconscious in Dublin city centre, after allegedly taken part in a ‘Neknomination’.
