Derry City and Strabane District Council has confirmed there will be no Christmas Market in Derry this year.

The announcement was made at this afternoon’s meeting of its Business and Culture Committee.

It emerged while Council would be spending £120,000 on marketing their Christmas events, which includes the lights switch-on 19 November, there would be no Christmas Market.

After Cllr John Boyle asked why no budget had been set aside, committee chairperson, Cllr Gerard Diver, said maybe “something had to give” in relation to available funding.
