Derry man granted bail despite curfew breach

Judge rules the 36-year-old can remain at liberty despite missing a mandatory police check
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court following a breach of his bail conditions.
Sean Morrison (36) of Great James Street in Derry was on bail for a number of alleged thefts, including allegedly stealing money and medication and was granted bail three days before his arrest for breaching his curfew.
Police were alerted on July 20 that Morrison wasn't at his address at the time of his curfew and tried phoning twice with no answer.
Later, Morrison contacted police to tell them that he had fallen asleep at a friend's address and handed himself in the following morning.
Police objected to bail as they believe Morrison would not abide by any conditions set by the court.
Defence Barrister Stephen Chapman said that there had been no further offending at the time of Morrison's breach and that there had been 'no suggestion that he was involved in further offences'.
He said that Morrison had 'woke up and realised his mistake'.
Bail was granted and he will appear again on August 19.
