Derry man given 'final warning' after World Cup bail breach

Man granted bail despite testing nearly three times over the alcohol limit while watching football
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court following a breach of his bail conditions while watching the World Cup.
Kevin O'Doherty (39) of St Brecan's Park in Derry was on bail for alleged offences including an assault causing grievous bodily harm, with bail conditions that included that he abide by a curfew and that he abstain from alcohol.
Police were first alerted that he wasn't at his address on July 19 when he did not answer his phone.
Police eventually attended his address and found him to be intoxicated when he answered the phone, giving a breath reading of 95mgs.
Police objected to bail as the assault charges O'Doherty is facing involved him being intoxicated in a public place.
He has no previous breaches of bail for these alleged offences.
Defence Barrister Michael Donaghy said that this breach was 'nothing sophisticated', telling the court that O'Doherty has been at home watching the World Cup and had stepped outside for a cigarette.
District Judge Suzanne Rice granted bail but told O'Doherty that this was 'a final warning'.
She upheld his previous conditions, including that he abstain from alcohol 'regardless of any football event'.
He will appear again on September 3.
