Claudy man fined for common assault of ex-wife

58-year-old hit with an 18-month restraining order following a property dispute.
Denis Crossan (58) of Slieveboy Road in Claudy was charged with the offence that was said to have occurred on October 17 last year when his ex-wife went to a property they owned to find Crossan inside, having changed the locks.
Crossan's ex-wife was said to be filming on her phone as Crossan told her that she wasn't getting in. He was then said to have tried to grab her.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that Crossan had attempted to grab the phone, not his ex-wife and added that she had two additional properties and no reason to be at this one.
He said that Crossan is of 'good character' and that the two of them had been going through 'a difficult divorce' for the past three years.
Crossan was ordered to pay a fine of £300 and a restraining order was imposed for eighteen months.
