A judge at Derry Magistrate's Court told a man that he had promised him what would happen if he breached his bail and added 'I wouldn't want to let him down' before remanding him into custody.
Eamonn Conor Graham (31) of Lodge Road in Coleraine appeared charged with breaching his bail by breaching his curfew.
A police officer told the court that police called at an address in Derry at 3.30am and found the defendant there.
He told the court that Graham had a curfew from 7pm until 7am and an address outside the city and was in breach of the conditions.
The court heard that police had 'no confidence' Graham would abide by any conditions as he had 16 bail breaches and 82 previous convictions.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client was awaiting sentence for offences of theft and was due in court on January 13.
He said that Graham had 'the Christmas temptation' to come to the city and did not get back in time.
District Judge Barney McElholm said he had made it clear when Graham appeared on December 9 what would happen if he breached his bail.
He remanded Graham in custody to appear again on January 13.
