A man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a charge of being a sex offender he did not notify police on his release from prison. 

Terence Halvey (46) of no fixed abode appeared at a Preliminary Enquiry at Derry Magistrate's Court today.

He faces one charge of being a sex offender and failed to notify police on his release from prison on December 27 last year.

It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions. 

Harvey said he did not want to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage. 

He was returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on May 28 and remanded in continuing custody.
