A man caught driving at 142km/h on a busy Donegal road has been convicted in court.

James McCartney was detected driving at 142km/h at Drumgreggan on the N13 dual carriageway outside Letterkenny.

The road is governed by a speed limit of 100km/h.

Gardai intercepted the blue Peugeot 208 being driven by McCartney at 2.25pm on April 20, 2022.

McCartney, a 40-year-old of Jacqueline Way, Derry, was shown the speed by officers and the driver apologised.

A fixed charge penalty notice was issued, but was not paid.

At Letterkenny District Court this week, McCartney was convicted and fined €300 by Judge Deirdre Gearty, who gave him three months to pay.
