A local man on bail on drugs charges was according to a solicitor 'potentially a tragic victim of a Derry taxi driver.'
Jonathan Patton (28) of Crawford Square in Derry appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court sitting in Omagh on a breach of bail charge.
The court heard that Patton had a curfew and breached it by being half an hour late.
A police officer told the court that Patton had been given 'advice and guidance' about breaching bail conditions on July 26.
The court was also told that Patton had gone 'AWOL' on July 17, 18 and 19 but police had been 'too busy dealing with the disorder in the city' to deal with it then.
Mr. Quigley said that his client had phone a taxi at 11.45 to ensure he was back in time for his curfew but when the taxi did not arrive he began to run home.
The solicitor said that he had advised his client to phone his taxi earlier.
Patton was re-release on bail to appear again on August 23.
