A proposed windfarm for Benbradagh mountain in Dungiven has been deferred to allow the Causeway Coast and Glens planning committee to visit the site.

The application for four turbines measuring 150 metres in height has received 1,366 objections and 219 letters of support.

The application was recommended for approval by planning officers but councillors decided to defer the matter to carry out a site visit.

Councillor Russell Watton proposed deferral for site visit and this was seconded by Alderman Michael Coyle. The vote was carried with a majority of 11 members in favour.

Speakers on behalf of both applicant and objectors will be given the opportunity to speak at the next council planning meeting.
