Chair of the Council, Councillor Frances Burton is encouraging residents to support this year’s Recycle Week

Mid Ulster District Council is supporting Recycle Week 2025, 22 – 28 September, encouraging residents to get on board with this year’s theme, ‘Rescue Me! Recycle’.

Now in its twenty second year, Recycle Week is the nation’s biggest annual celebration of recycling.

This Recycle Week, Recycle Now and Mid Ulster District Council are proud to support the Rescue Me! Recycle campaign.

The campaign continues to shine a spotlight on missed capture items that too often end up in the rubbish bin but can, and should, be recycled.

Following the success of last year’s campaign, Rescue Me! Recycle returns this year to continue to emphasise the importance of recycling correctly in your blue bin, focusing predominately on the following items: Shampoo bottles, foil, trigger sprays, aerosols, yoghurt pots, aftershave and perfume bottles and toilet roll tubes.

Here in Mid Ulster, we are putting missed capture items front and centre. Remember to use your blue bin to recycle these items. If you’re unsure if something can be recycled in the blue bin, you can check at: midulstercouncil.org/bluebin

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Frances Burton, is encouraging residents to continue with their excellent recycling efforts; “Mid Ulster is making great strides in recycling. It is a fundamental step in conserving natural resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions while also ensuring that valuable materials can be put to use again and again. By recycling together and rescuing those missed items, we can make our recycling efforts even more impactful. Let’s keep up the great work and make Mid Ulster’s recycling better than ever before!”

Catherine David, CEO, at WRAP added, “Recycle Week continues to be a powerful moment to inspire action across the UK, and this year’s ‘Rescue Me! Recycle’ campaign is no exception. By highlighting everyday items like shampoo bottles, foil, and toothpaste tubes—things we often overlook—we’re helping people see the real impact of small changes. Thanks to innovation and collaboration, more of these items can now be recycled than ever before. Together with local authorities and communities, we’re making it easier to do the right thing and keep valuable materials in use. Let’s rescue these items from the rubbish and give them a second life.”

Also, to coincide with Recycle Week 2025, the Council recently launched its new bin lorry messaging. Residents across Mid Ulster will notice a fresh new look on local bin lorries. Bright, eye-catching artwork has been rolled out to highlight the community’s shared commitment to protecting the environment and reducing waste.

The new designs carry three clear messages:

  • ‘Recycling food waste together for a greener tomorrow’
  • ‘Recycling plastics together for a greener tomorrow’
  • ‘Driving towards a greener future together’.

The colourful lorries act as moving reminders of the simple actions everyone can take to build a cleaner, more sustainable future.
