A new TV documentary will focus on the death of a 21-year-old showjumper in County Derry is set to air on Sky next week.

Katie Simpson, from Tynan in Co. Armagh, died in Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry a week after an incident in Gortnessy Meadows, Lettershandoney on August 3 2020.

This three-part series investigating the young woman’s death will air on SKY and the streaming service NOW this Sunday September 7.

‘Death of a Showjumper’ promises to expose the "hypocrisy, secrets and violence under the surface of a seemingly perfect and privileged world".

In August 2020 an unresponsive Katie was driven part-way to Altnagelvin Hospital by Jonathan Creswell. She was then transferred to an ambulance.

Creswell, who was driving Katie’s car, told paramedics and two police officers that Katie had attempted to take her own life at a house in Derry.

Police were also told by Creswell and another person that Katie had recently been injured in a fall from a horse — to account for the bruising on her body.

It later emerged Jonathan Creswell had been abusing Katie since she was a young teenager and was charged with her murder.

He took his own life while on trial for Katie’s murder.

The programme also features journalist Tanya Fowles who had "questioned the official conclusion" by the PSNI that Katie had taken her own life.
