The late Attracta McGuigan, Dungiven
A Dungiven GAA club has paid tribute to one of its lifelong members following her sad passing.
Attracta McGuigan died on Wednesday (August 13) at Altnagelvin Hospital.
The death notice for the Dungiven woman described her as ‘the beloved wife of Colm. Loving mother of Carla and mother in law of Gabriel Moore. Daughter of the late Brian and Frances R.I.P and dear sister of Adrian (Barney)’.
Attracta has been praised and remembered fondly by her local GAA club, St Canice's GAC in Dungiven.
A club spokesperson said she was a ‘wonderful host’ who ‘always carried a smile’.
“The Committee, Players and Members of St Canice's GAC Dungiven are deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Attracta McGuigan, wife of Colm, former senior player, chairman, secretary and honorary President of St Canice’s. Colm is also a current member of the club Executive Committee.
“Attracta has been a lifetime member of the club working tirelessly in the background for years. She managed the social club along with Colm for a number of years and was a wonderful host always carrying a smile. She worked in a totally voluntary capacity for countless years doing lots of jobs that no one saw.
“She washed jerseys, made food for teams, helped with clearing up after everyone had left and was always there when a helping hand was needed. She was very generous with not only her time, but she was one of the kindest and warm-hearted people you could ever meet. Attracta was a huge part of the club and will be sadly missed by everyone.
“Sincere condolences to Colm, Carla, Gabriel, her brother Adrian (Barney) and the entire McGuigan family circle.
“May she rest in peace. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a hanam uasal.”
Attracta’s funeral will take place tomorrow (Saturday, August 16) leaving her late home at 12.30pm for 1pm Requiem Mass in Saint Patrick’s Church in Dungiven.
