Kilrea Flower Show committee raised a total of £1,500

Kilrea Flower Show committee organised a mini flower show last August which was extremely well supported by WI members and people of all ages from the local community.

A total of £1,500 was raised from the show and from a fireside quiz and has been forwarded to the chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

This money will be used within the North and since 98% of the charity's income is from voluntary donations, the money will be vital to the continued support for those suffering from cancer and their families.

The Kilrea Flower Show committee wish to thank everyone who helped to make the show such a success.

A spokesperson said: “Special thanks to First Kilrea Church for the use of the Hall and facilities; to our special guest Linda Steele who kindly opened the show; to the judges James Burnside, Anne Kirkwood, Helen Laughlin, Audrey Paul and Derrick Turbitt, who so willingly gave of their time and expertise; to Johnston Printing Ltd for printing the schedules without charge; to Emily McEldowney for compiling the fireside quiz; to the Fairy Thorn Festival organisers who allowed our show to be a part of the festival weekend; and to the local community who so generously support our events each year and greatly encourage us in our fundraising.”
