Antrim Magistrates Court
A County Derry man appeared in court today (Tuesday, February 4) accused of trying to inflict grievous bodily harm.
Appearing by videolink from police custody at Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, Cathal O’Hara was charged with three offences alleged to have been committed on February 2 this year.
O’Hara, from Mountainview Park in Dungiven, was charged with attempting to inflict GBH on a male complainant with intent, causing that same alleged victim actual bodily harm and possessing a weapon, namely a screwdriver, with intent to cause ABH.
None of the alleged facts were opened in court but a statement released by the PSNI outlined how O’Hara was arrested by officers investigating a report of assault in a house in the Mountainview Park area of Dungiven.
“On police arrival, it appeared two males had been fighting, with one man sustaining a stab wound to the neck, just above his collarbone,” said the statement.
In court today, a police officer said she believed she could connect O’Hara to each of the charges, confirming there was no objections to O’Hara being granted bail subject to a number of conditions.
Granting bail in the sum of £500, District Judge Nigel Broderick added on conditions that O’Hara is to have no contact with the alleged victim, that he must reside at an address approved by police and that he must not be intoxicated in public.
Adjourning the case to February 12, the judge told O’Hara that although bail has been granted he won’t be released until he has an approved bail address.
