County Derry Farmer wins Ulster Farmers' Union spring barley cereal competition

A County Derry farmer was awarded first place in the 2024 Ulster Farmers' Union spring barley cereal competition.

Johnny Hamilton of the UFU South Londonderry group was the victor in this year's competition.

The Ulster Farmers’ Union along with spring barley competition sponsors Fane Valley and Bayer announced Mr. Hamilton the victor of the annual competition. 

Each county had nominated their victors, with Mr. Hamilton earned Derry’s and he would prove to be the eventual winner. 

Beating out Sam Long from UFU North Down group in second and in a respectable third place was Mark and Paul Russell from the UFU North Tyrone group.

The awards for the winter barley, oats, winter wheat and spring barley cereal competition categories will be officially presented at the 2024 UFU and sponsors cereals competition awards and lunch planned for later this year.
