The Limavady MUSC raised £600 at their recent 'Legends Event' and donated all the monies raised to LCDI
Limavady Manchester United Supporters Club (MUSC) has raised hundreds of pounds for the Limavady Community Development Initiative (LCDI).
The LCDI is a cross community charity whose work is focused on serving the whole of the community across the Borough.
They were established in 1987 by a group of local people concerned by the increasing levels of unemployment in the Borough at the time and a few of those original founding members are still on the Committee to this day.
Today, they employ around 70 people delivering a range of innovative projects throughout the Borough and further afield.
The Limavady MUSC raised £600 at their recent 'Legends Event' and donated all the monies raised to LCDI as their club founder and chairman for 16 years, Harry Lyness, worked with the charity for a number of years and it is an organisation that the club have supported in the past.
Harry sadly passed away in June 2018 and when Limavady MUSC were organising the event, they wanted to do something in his memory. They explained, "The main reason LCDI was selected was we wanted to continue the link with the charity that Harry and the club have always maintained.
"The event was to celebrate our 21st season as an official Manchester United Supporters Club. We decided to hold a raffle on the night to raise money for a local charity and LCDI was quickly selected.
"LCDI does a lot of work throughout the local area and the donation will be used towards the food bank and family centre to help support local families."
The club's 'Legends Event' was held in May and former Manchester United players David May, Brian McClair and Keith Gillespie all attended.
The night was also hosted by Alan Keegan, the voice of Old Trafford. It was a two-part show with all the players taking to the stage to tell stories from their playing days and answering questions from the audience. The crowd then enjoyed live music until late.
The club added: "We were delighted to make a donation of £600 to LCDI. They are a fantastic local charity. Thank you again to everyone who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and supported the event."
In a post on social media, LCDI thaked the club for their donation. They wrote: "Thanks to Limavady Man Utd Supporters club who raised £600 for the food bank and family centre to help support families experiencing food poverty."
