'The summer holiday period can be a very expensive time for parents taking their children to activities especially during the months of July and August' - Cllr Aisling Hutton
Derry City and Strabane District Council's £1 summer leisure scheme for children and young people has been welcomed by Cllr Aisling Hutton who is encouraging people to avail of the offer.
This scheme is taking place in a number of Council facilities including: Templemore Sports Complex, Bishops Field, City Baths, Foyle Arena, Brooke Park Leisure Centre, Derg Valley Leisure Centre, Melvin Sports Complex and Riversdale Leisure Centre.
Activities must be booked on the day of play and advance bookings are not available.
The chairperson of Council's Health Committee said: "The scheme can be accessed from Monday to Friday up until 5.00pm. I would encourage as many families as possible with children and young people to avail of this scheme.
“The summer holiday period can be a very expensive time for parents taking their children to activities especially during the months of July and August.
“Its also very important to promote exercise, try new sports and healthy living for our children. So the £1 summer leisure scheme is an excellent opportunity to do all that."
