Derry will come alive with the sound of Guitar 25-27 August 2017 when the City of Derry Guitar Festival will host its 15th edition in the state of the art facilities of the North West Regional College.

The Festival caters for guitar lovers and players of all backgrounds and abilities by offering a warm and friendly atmosphere that encourages learning from some of the leading international guitarists of our time, alongside concerts open to the general public.

This year Classical Guitarists are in for a treat as the Festival features a full female line up showcasing three of Europe's finest. Wiktoria Szubelak, Isabel Martinez and Dominika Bialostocka will hold the Classical Guitar Course and perform a solo set each at the Guitar Gala and World Stage concerts. Having established themselves as guitarists of unique abilities on the concert platforms of Europe they are also regarded as outstanding teachers for their friendly and thorough approach. Teaching will take place all day Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August.

“In a predominantly male-dominated world like that of classical guitar, this year we decided to focus on the extraordinary talent of these three young ladies, to showcase their very distinctive playing styles and techniques. The Classical Guitar Course and all concerts promise to be a treat for all local and visiting guitarists!” says Sean Woods, Artistic Director and founder of the event.

The Festival line up will be completed by Amir-John Haddad “El Amir” who makes a welcome return for a Flamenco workshop and, for the first time at the Festival, a workshop on the Arabic Oud and its influences on flamenco guitar playing. Amir will also perform at the World Stage concert on Saturday 26 August, 8pm.

For the rock souls out there, local blues and rock guitarist Ted Lynch will hold an electric guitar course entirely dedicated to the legendary sound of Black Sabbath 26-27 August.

A Ukulele Course is also back by popular demand, with Ronan Kearney ready to take beginners and post-beginners through the basic of ukulele during two days of fun and catchy tunes.

Applications from guitarists of all standards are welcome. For a full programme of courses and concerts www.cityofderryguitarfestival.com, or email cityofderryguitarfestival@gmail.com.
