A key economic development site in Derry has been put up for sale for £2m.

The four-acre site is located at the junction of Buncrana Road and Strand Road.

It was once home to a large Budget DIY store but this closed in 2006 with the loss of around 30 jobs.

Since then, the main building on the site has been occupied.

A separate building on the site is currently let to Harry Corry Ltd for an annual rent of £104,000.

Xtravision had rented another building on the site for many years but it was also closed in recent times.

As a result, the Buncrana Road/Strand Road site, which is located opposite the former Fort George military base, has fallen off the radar in terms of the local economy.

However, it is hoped that the proposed sale of the site will breathe new life into it.

The sale is being handled by Belfast-based firm Lambert Smith Hampton.

They claim that the location of the site, in particular its easy links to the city centre and Donegal, will prove attractive to potential buyers.
