Two brothers were granted anonymity when they at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with drug offences.

The pair were charged with possessing drugs and importing cannabis on dates between September last year and 13 April.

Opposing bail, a police officer told the court court that one of the defendants had been detained in relation to drug charges and his phone was seized and this led police to his brother.

Stating the generalised threat against people involved in the drugs trade "has not been withdrawn or diminished," District Judge McElhom said he was not prepared to release the two as he believed it was "premature" as police investigations were still ongoing.

He remanded the pair in custody to appear next month.
