The imminent commencement of roadworks in Foyle Springs of Derry has been welcomed by the city's Mayor.
Cllr John Boyle, the SDLP representative area said the news comes “after a long and frustrating campaign to encourage Transport NI to fix one of the worst road surfaces in the city.”
Councillor Boyle said, “I very much welcome the news that Transport NI are to carry out a road improvement scheme in Foyle Springs over the coming weeks. It has been a long and frustrating campaign. I first contacted Transport NI about the poor condition of the Foyle Springs Road almost a year and a half ago and have continually contacted them on behalf of my constituents.
“The road has been in a dreadful condition for far too long and representatives of Transport NI continually cited lack of available finance to address the issue, even saying that the many potholes simply weren’t deep enough to warrant repair.
"I am delighted that the works are to be carried out but it is ridiculous that the people of Foyle Springs have had to wait so long to see a relatively short stretch of road repaired"
Cllr Boyle concluded: 'The work will commence on the week beginning Monday 18th March for four weeks and motorists should expect some delays"
