A new priest has been appointed to the Creggan parish.

It comes after the Bishop of Derry, Dr Donal McKeown, appointed a new curate to the parish of Creggan where a priest is currently on sick leave.

Fr Daniel McFaul succeeds Fr Dermott Harkin as curate of St Mary’s.

The Creggan parish had been without a priest ever since Fr Harkin was granted leave of absence on health grounds a number of weeks ago.

Fr McFaul had been ministering in the neighbouring parish of St Eugene’s for the past six years following his ordination.

A spokesperson for St Eugene’s said: “We express our gratitude to Fr Daniel for his six years of service, for his faith, commitment, compassion and pastoral care.

“We thank God for his time among us and assure Fr Daniel of our prayers as he continues his ministry.”
