An appeal has been launched urging local artists and art lovers to donate works to a charity auction being held in Derry at the start of December.

The Derry branch of Concern are hosting the auction at The Playhouse in Derry on December 7, where the organisation hopes to auction the donated works to raise much needed funds for the Concern Emergency Appeal, which provides food and shelter for the poorest of the poor in 26 countries.

A special launch event was held in The Playhouse last week to raise local awareness of the auction, which has already received a number of donations from local artists.

A spokesperson for Concern said: “Local artists have donated some paintings and other pieces of art for the auction.

“However, we are also are also asking for donations for the auction.

“If people don't know what to do about paintings that have gone past their sell by date, Concern can dispose of them humanely and in the process, raise some funds for Concern.”

The spokesperson added: “I'm sure there could be plenty of artwork that no longer fits with the current decor or just doesn't seem quite as good now as when they first went up.”

If you would like to donate artwork for the auction, you can either drop the artwork into the local Concern shop at Ferryquay Street, or Concern will collect the artwork directly from you home.

The collection service can contacted by ringing Aidan on 07894813724.
