For the first meeting of the new season Ballinascreen Historical Society is delighted to host a very well illustrated talk by Sebastian Graham, who is Heritage Projects Officer with the Ulster Architectural Heritage.
In a recent interview Sebastian said: “Shockingly underfunded and undervalued, Northern Ireland’s historic buildings fight the odds for their survival. At the forefront of the battle is the Ulster Architectural Heritage, an independent organisation which has campaigned for over 50 years for historic buildings in Northern Ireland and the nine counties of Ulster.”
As the number of listed buildings on the Heritage at Risk register climbs upwards – the number almost doubled in three years from 600 in 2020 to 1098 in 2023 - this is a critical stage for our local built heritage.
In this talk Sebastian, who is from Cookstown, will look at some local structures on the register, the challenges they face and some potential solutions.
Everyone is welcome to come along to view some architecturally and historically important buildings that appear to be at risk.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 1, starting at 8pm in the Workspace Community Hub (50 High Street beside Draperstown Library).
