The development of two historic Derry buildings has taken a major step forward.
Ilex today announced the appointment of Blick Studios as operator of the Creative Hub at Buildings 80 and 81 at Ebrington.
Blick Studios will manage the Creative Hub, securing tenants from a variety of creative disciplines, including design related industries, expressive industries, and media and information industries.
It is planned that around 50 people will eventually be based at the Ebrington buildings which housed the Turner Prize during last year’s City of Culture celebrations in Derry.
There was controversy when Ilex declined to maintain the buildings as an exhibition space after the end of the Turner Prize exhibition.
However, it has now been confirmed that the buildings will be used as a business hub.
Announcing the appointment of the Creative Hub operator, Ilex’s Chair, Philip Flynn said: “This is a key development in the ongoing regeneration of Ebrington.
“Blick will manage and operate the Creative Hub, seek tenants, attract inward investment through their strong connections with creative businesses, and ultimately, help achieve 50 jobs for the hub."
Christine James, Managing Director of Blick Studios, said: “We are excited to expand our services to Derry~Londonderry and work with the local creative community and businesses to build a thriving and vibrant creative hub in the beautiful setting of Ebrington.”
