An Eglinton community group has said it is working in conjunction with DFI to combat growing traffic concerns in the County Derry village.
There have been growing concerns in a County Derry village regarding traffic calming measures.
It has been reported several individuals in the area have had ‘near misses’ at the zebra crossing on Main Street of the village.
Spokesperson for community group Eglinton Active Travel Team Declan Norris has reassured the public they are working with DFI to introduce calming measures to the area.
Speaking to the County Derry Post he said: “About a year ago we had a public meeting in the local hall from which we took our concerns to DFI.
“They put out the first of a consultation for traffic calming on the Woodvale Road going into the Main Street of Eglinton village.
“We are hoping for several forms of traffic calming measures throughout the village. There is to be a raised pedestrian crossing outside the school. There have been people that have put in objections against the calming measures put forward.
“We understand that DFI is working through it. They are working with people around the issues they may have about the traffic calming measures.
“This is part of a holistic approach to the traffic issues in the area. We have to respect that these things take time. In the Eglinton Active Travel Team we are working constantly with DFI to get to the solution of the traffic calming measures in the village.”
Mr Norris concluded: “There are a lot of issues regarding traffic coming into the village. One of the biggest problems is that DFI has not finished the final stage of the A6, from Maydown to Drumahoe.
“If that was finished it would take away the lorries and alleviate some of the traffic in the area. Hopefully it won’t be long until we have a conclusion.”
