The Derry-based fertility support charity, Cairde Nellie, is inviting submissions for its first grant programme which will open for applications on World IVF Day – Saturday, July 25.

The charity was founded by a local couple whose own journey to parenthood involved multiple rounds of IVF before the successful birth of their daughter.

Inspired by their personal experience, they set up Cairde Nellie to help others facing the emotional and financial challenges of fertility treatment.

The grant programme is designed to support individuals and couples living in County Derry who are seeking or undergoing clinically appropriate fertility treatment through a licensed fertility clinic.

Successful applicants will receive funding of up to £3,000 which will be paid directly to their clinic.

Cairde Nellie’s founders said they were keen to provide practical support to local people facing the same challenges they encountered.

“Having experienced infertility ourselves, we understand the emotional and financial strain that fertility treatment can place on individuals and families. We know how overwhelming it can feel when treatment is needed but the cost seems beyond reach. We want to offer practical support – and hope – to people in Derry who are navigating their own fertility journey.”

Applicants will be assessed by an independent grant panel using a scoring framework that considers factors such as financial need and personal circumstances.

Eligibility criteria will include: *Residency within County Derry*. Seeking or undergoing clinically appropriate fertility treatment at a licensed fertility clinic.

Applications will remain open until Saturday, October 31.
