LIMAVADY put together a strong last quarter to pull away from newly reformed Dungiven Thirds in their opening game of the new division three season on Wednesday night.

It was a perfect evening for football and a strong performance from midfielders Cathal McNicholl and Eunan Smyth gave Dungiven control of the game early on.

Dungiven captain Gavin ‘Pinny’ McLaughlin was the anchor of the Dungiven defence and at the other end Harry McLaughlin excelled on his debut at full back for the Wolfhounds.

The visitors led 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time, with Dessie Loughrey among the scorers in his first game in five years.

In the early moments of the second-half Dungiven had a strong spell of possession but squandered 2-3 worth of chances. By the 40th minute Limavady made them pay by drawing level at 0-8 each before pushing on for the win.

Limavady started to get a grip at midfield and get a more steady supply of ball into an already productive full forward line. All three inside forwards scored from play and the Wolfhounds were taking control on the scoreboard at 0-12 to 0-8 after 46 minutes.

Substitutes Ruairi Hasson and Richard King added an additional impetus, with King hitting two points to ensure a winning start for Limavady.
