Dungiven teenager Bronagh O’Kane has plenty to celebrate after being crowned Miss Cookstown and earning her place in the Open and Direct Miss Northern Ireland final, which will take place at the Europa Hotel, Belfast on May 12.

A pupil at Loreto College in Coleraine, Bronagh is currently studying for her A-levels in history, drama and politics.

In her spare time the 17 year-old is a keen Irish Dancer and has competed in a number of high profile contests including the All Ireland Fleadh in Derry last year.

Speaking about the contest, Bronagh (pictured seated on the left) said she ‘hopes to do Dungiven proud.’

She said: “Taking part in the Open and Direct Miss Northern Ireland contest is something that I’ve always wanted to do.

“I’ve followed the contest since I was a little girl and I have always looked up to the previous titleholders.

“I would love the opportunity to be that role model for other girls and become an ambassador for Northern Ireland.

“Everyone in the local area has been really supportive, wishing me luck and offering kind words.

“I’m really looking forward to taking part in the final and I hope I will do Dungiven proud,” added Bronagh.
